Trustee Election Information

Information for the election of up to three (3) new trustees for Tūhourangi Tribal Authority | 22 March 2025

Update: Monday 24 March 2025

The Official Returning Officer declared the results for the 2025 Tribal Authority Representative election that closed at 2pm Saturday 22 March 2025.

They confirm that the official result was generated after the validity of all votes was determined, and all valid votes were counted.

Eligibility

  • You must be a registered member of Tūhourangi Tribal Authority to be eligible to vote

  • To register or check if you are registered, click here

  • Please allow time for your application to be processed, checked by our Whakapapa Team and validated by 4:30pm Wednesday 12 March 2025

If you are not registered as at 4:31pm Wednesday 12 March 2025, you will not be able to vote in the elections.

Voting

There are three (3) ways to vote:

  • By post

    • Must be received by Returning Officer by 4:30pm Thursday 20 March 2025

  • Electronic

  • In-person

    • At Whakarewarewa School, 63 Sala St, Rotorua

    • 10am - 2pm

    • Saturday 22 March 2025

  • Āe. There will be support at the registration desk for in-person voting as well as online support via admin@tuhourangi.iwi.nz

    • You must be registered with Tūhourangi Tribal Authority to be eligible to vote

    • Only the person whose name is recorded on the voting slip along with their profile code, can complete and submit the voting slip

  • Postal

    When your request has been received, your form will be sent by the end of the next working day.

    Please allow up to three (3) working days for your forms to be sent to you, as per NZ Post guidelines.

    Electronic

    When your request has been received, your form will be sent by the end of the next working day.

  • Electionz are the official Returning Officers, responsible for overseeing the process and receiving each voting form.

    They will tally the votes on Saturday 22 March and announce the three (3) successful nominees. Full results will be shared publicly via:

    • Official Tūhourangi Tribal Authority channels by Saturday evening

    • Rotorua Daily Post by Tuesday 25 March 2025

  • You may vote for up to three (3) nominees.

    Kia mataara! Please ensure you check your voting slip thoroughly before submitting. If you select more than three (3) your vote will be deemed invalid.

    You will be notified if your vote has been made invalid by the Returning Officer and instructed to complete a new form. Make sure you submit your new form to the Returning Officer by 4:30pm Thursday 20 March.

  • The Returning Officer will notify you to confirm your vote has been received

    • If you are not a registered Tūhourangi Tribal Authority member

    • If you select more than three (3) your vote

    • If you submit more than one (1) voting slip

    • If you submit after the cut-off time of 4:30pm Thursday 20 March 2025

    You will be notified if your vote has been made invalid by the Returning Officer and instructed to complete a new form. Make sure you submit your new form to the Returning Officer by 4:30pm Thursday 20 March.

  • Auahi ana! Your registration must first be validated by our Whakapapa Team then they will contact you to let you know your application has been approved, or if they require any further information.

    The Whakapapa Team are working overtime leading up to the elections to ensure any new or pending registrations will be validated before the cut-off date. Once validated, you may request a voting form.

  • The Returning Officer will tally the votes on Saturday 22 March, after in-person voting has closed, and announce the three (3) successful nominees.

    Full results will be shared publicly via:

    • Official Tūhourangi Tribal Authority channels by Saturday evening

    • Rotorua Daily Post by Tuesday 25 March 2025
